Serayu: Journal of Multidisciplinary Community Development is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Serayu Institute, a non-governmental organization dedicated to bridging research, policy, and community empowerment. The journal serves as an interdisciplinary platform for academics, practitioners, policymakers, and development workers to publish original research, policy analysis, theoretical reviews, and best practices in the field of community development.
The journal aims to advance multidisciplinary knowledge on community development by integrating perspectives from environmental studies, education, social sciences, economics, political science, religious studies, and cultural studies. It seeks to bridge theory and practice by publishing evidence-based research that informs policy and grassroots empowerment programs, while promoting sustainable and inclusive development that respects local wisdom, social justice, and ecological integrity. The journal also strives to amplify voices from the Global South, particularly Indonesia, by providing a reputable outlet for local researchers and practitioners.
The scope of the journal encompasses seven core areas: environment and conservation, education, social and cultural studies, economics, politics and governance, religion and spirituality, and sustainable tourism. Topics of interest include watershed management, climate change adaptation, community-based natural resource management, non-formal education, social transformation, local wisdom, creative economy, micro and small enterprises, community-based tourism, decentralization, participatory planning, faith-based community development, ecotourism, and cross-cutting issues such as the Sustainable Development Goals and action research. The journal is published biannually in June and December, and all submissions undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure originality, methodological rigor, and practical relevance.
